Seal porous FDM prints against water, liquids or gases with a Dichtol impregnation process selected for the material and part geometry.
How does Dichtol sealing work?
FDM parts can contain invisible channels between layers, perimeters or around the seam. The low-viscosity impregnation agent penetrates these paths and cures within the porous structure.
The aim is infiltration of fine pores rather than merely adding a thick external coating.

What does the service include?
We first review the model, material, wall thickness and access to the surfaces that need sealing. The part must be clean, dry and free from grease and loose support residue.
Depending on geometry, the agent can be applied by immersion, filling, brushing or spraying. Excess material is removed before curing; typical Dichtol AM products reach full cure after about 24 hours under room conditions.
How is the sealing price calculated?
Select Dichtol sealing next to a calculated model. The calculator includes the combined surface area, the number of physical parts and one-time preparation of the sealed batch. The service minimum is applied once to the batch, but every additional part adds an application charge.
The automatic price covers standard sealing of accessible surfaces without a pressure test. Contact us before ordering if the part will operate under pressure, with a specified medium or requires documented leak testing.
Good to know: For pressure-bearing or safety-related parts, the test method and acceptance criteria must be agreed before production.
Important limitations
Performance depends on pore size, print quality, material, geometry and the selected Dichtol product. Large cracks, poor layer bonding or an unsuitable design may require a new print instead of impregnation alone.
Treatment does not automatically certify the finished part for food, drinking water, pressure systems or medical use. Such requirements need a separate assessment of the exact product, process and intended application.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will Dichtol make every 3D print watertight?+
No. Fine pores can be sealed effectively, but large gaps, cracks, very thin walls or unsuitable geometry may require redesign or reprinting.
Can you seal a part that I have already printed?+
Yes, after checking the material, surface condition and sealing requirement. The part must be clean and free from coatings that would block penetration.
How long does sealing take?+
Application is relatively quick, but the part also needs draining and curing time. We confirm the lead time individually; full cure often requires about 24 hours.
